Jean Arthur Revisited On TCM

1936-nestleHere’s a good news for the classic movie aficionados. On Sunday, August 30, Turner Classic Movies dedicated
an entire day as a tribute to the legendary American actress Jean Arthur. The homage paid to the actress is a part of the month long program called “Summer Of The Stars”, presented by TCM. The movie buffs got the golden opportunity to revisit the golden era of Hollywood, thus creating a fresh air of nostalgia.

The classic revival of the Jean Arthur movies, which the viewers witnessed on Sunday included “The Silver Horde”, “Public Hero No. 1″, Adventure In Manhattan”, “Whirlpool”, “Only Angels Have Wings”, “Shane”, “The Devil And Miss Jones”, “Mr. Smith Goes To Washington”, “You Can’t Take It With You”, “The Ex-Mrs.Bradford”, “If You Could Only Cook”, “Too Many Husbands”, “The Impatient Years” and “Party Wire”. TCM, the network which aired these classic movies reportedly drew a considerably large number of viewers, mostly comprising of the fans of Jean Arthur or classic movie aficionados.

Jean Arthur was one of the major film stars of the 1930’s and 40’s. She arguably remains the epitome of “screwball comedy” actress. Arthur was also proclaimed as the “the quintessential comedic leading lady”. Arthur is best known for her roles in three Frank Capra movies which includes “Mr. Deeds Goes To Town”, “You Can’t Take It With You” and “Mr.Smith Goes To Washington”.

Arthur was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in the year 1944 for the movie “The More The Merrier”.

Jean Arthur died due to a heart failure in the year 1991. She was 90. She has a star at the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.
