Jazz Piano Grammy Winner Hank Jones Dies At 91

May 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Grammy Award winner and jazz piano player who accompanied Marilyn Monroe as she sang her famous “Happy Birthday” to President John F Kennedy, has ended his amazing 70 year career when he died Sunday night at the age of 91.

Jones’ manager, Jean Pierre Leduc stated to the “Associated Press” that Jones died at a hospital in New York on Sunday night after being ill for a brief time. Aside from accompanying Marilyn Monroe, Jones also played for Ell Fitzgerald and many others. He won a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award last year and in 2008, Jones won the National Medal of Arts. Jones was also voted as piano player of the year at last year’s Jazz Awards, among such distinguished nominees as Kenny Baron, and Keith Jarret.

He continued with his career right up until the end when he was hospitalized, He still has scheduled gigs such as the famous Birdland Jazz Club in New York City next week. He was truly a talented musician and will be missed by many.
