Jazz Pianist Dave Brubeck Receives Kennedy Centre Honour

Dec.31, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Much acclaimed jazz pianist Dave Brubeck recently received the Kennedy Center Honor for his unprecedented contribution to American culture. The 32nd Annual Kennedy Center Honors was held at the Washington, D.C. arts center on December 6, and the much anticipated award ceremony was aired on TV on Tuesday night on CBS.
The occasion was all the more special for the iconic jazz pianist as he received the recognition on his 89th birthday. The evening turned out to be immensely touching for the legendary musician as his four sons accompanied him onstage and wished their father on his birthday. Moreover, the jazz legend was introduced onstage by Grammy Award-winning artist Herbie Hancock, who gave him a musical tribute. Following the honor, Dave Brubeck added that receiving the honor was like a dream come true for him as he had waited for years to be recognized by the much coveted award.
Apart from Dave Brubeck, the other four honorees this year included singer Bruce Springsteen, opera singer Grace Bumbry, producer Mel Brooks and veteran actor Robert De Niro. The high profile award ceremony also witnessed the presence of United States President Barack Obama and the First Lady Michelle Obama, along with a host of other celebrities.
Meanwhile, the recognition did not come as a surprise to the fans of the musical maestro, who is known for his distinct musical style and his ability to blend together a variety of rhythms and tonalities. Moreover, his unique time signatures has over the years won the hearts of millions of music lovers all across the world.
