Jaya Prada To Play ‘Kittur Rani Chanamma’

August 30, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Veteran actress Jaya Prada has kept her words to director Naganna, whom she promised earlier to play the role of “Kitturu Rani Chanamma’. Now after so many years, the actress has given her fresh dates to the director as she has agreed to play the role.
The film concerned here is a historical Kannada movie titled “Kranthiveera Sangolli Rayanna’, which has the challenging star Darshan in the male lead role.
The actress, who has already achieved a “Lifetime Achievement Award’ in south for her career of more than 30 years, will be playing the role that was immortalized by Dr B Sarojadevi earlier. The audience still remembers Dr Sarojadevi for playing that role so it would be a great challenge for Jaya Prada to live up to the expectations of the Kannada film viewers.
Kitturu Rani Chennamma was the brave queen of Kittur in Karnataka. The queen led an armed revolt against the British rule, which happened in 1824. She is considered to be one of the earliest rulers of India, who struggled for independence. The queen is still remembered as an icon of bravery and women’s pride along with Keladi Chennamma, Abbakka Rani and Onake Obavva.
