Oprah Winfrey London, Sep 26 (ANI): Jay-Z gave a glimpse of his soft side recently when he opened up on the Oprah show, and revealed that his father walked out on him when he was a kid.

In an emotional interview with Oprah Winfrey, broadcast on US TV, the rapper, real name Shawn Corey Carter, confessed that the incident has clouded his entire life.

Jay-Z’s father, Adnes Reeves, left home when he was 11-years-old, and they didn’t patch things up until just before his death in 2003.

And the 39-year-old artist revealed how he was left devastated as a child after the incident.

“I just felt anger at the whole situation. Because when you’re growing up, your dad is your superhero,” the Sun quoted him as saying.

“Once you’ve let yourself fall in love with someone, once you put him on such a high pedestal and he lets you down, you never want to experience that pain again.

“So I remember just being really quiet and really cold. Never wanting to let myself get close to someone like that again.

“I carried that feeling throughout my life, until my father and I met up before he died,” he added.

Although Jay later found his dad had moved in with his grandmother 10 minutes up the road, they were estranged until his mum Gloria stepped in.

Jay continued: “She set up a meeting and now I realize why - it makes all the sense in the world.”

Jay-Z said that the pair mended their relationship after he was able to accept his dad’s reasons for walking out.

A couple of months after their meeting, his father died, but to this day he credits their reunion with helping free himself and find a life of love with his wife Beyonce. (ANI)
