concertJay-Z proved on Friday night that he is a dedicated and New Yorker by heart as well as his love for the Big Apple. At the “Answer to Call” concert, which was held on the the anniversary of the tragic September 11, 2001 World Trade Center bombings, the 39 year old performer paid a very heart warming tribute to all those police officers and firefighters who had lost their lives in the rescue operations.

The concert was kicked off with the Pledge of Alliance and Jay-Z topped it up with a collection of New York anthems that included ones like “Empire State of Mind,” which was performed as a duet along with the R&B diva Alicia Keys.

The event was also attended by quite a few other high profile celebrity guests, who along with the music and fashion mogul performed the the event; the list boasted of names like Jay-Z’s immensely popular wife, the R&B diva Beyonce, Kanye west, JOhn Mayer, Diddy, Mary J. Blige and Rihana. Incidentally, this was the R&B diva, Rihana’s first public performance since the February fiasco which had taken place between her and then boyfriend, Chris Brown. The concert had aired on the Fuse TV.

Jay-Z is reported to have said, “I’m a native New Yorker and the strength and resiliency of New Yorkers makes me proud. This was my chance to do something for the great city of New York and help create more awareness of the New York Police & Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit fund.”
