Jay Leno’s last show on FridayMay 30th, 2009 - 7:19 pm ICT by GD
“The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” came to an end on Friday. The final week of the show had been getting high viewership and on Friday the show came to an end with Jay Leno introducing his successor, Conan O’Brien. O’Brien was his final guest, and he is to take over from Leno, Monday onwards. Though many viewers might have expected a special guest or a collage of bits of Leno’s comedy, the final show did not feature anything like it. Rather, what it featured was a parade of sixty eight little children, all of whom were born to parents who had met because they worked on the Tonight Show.
The second last show had brought back Billy Crystal who was Jay’s first guest seventeen years ago. Crystal returned to the show saluting Jay with a musical medley.
Leno thanked Mavin, his wife of thirty years. She was among the audience and responded with a bow. Leno also thanked the former entertainment president of NBC, Warren Littlefield, who had supported Leno in the initial years of instability, when the show was yet to establish itself.
Leno, who is fifty nine years old now, is all set to begin a new show on NBC in September this year. As might be expected, he has been reported saying that he will miss The Tonight Show terribly. Viewers will miss him too and O’Brien the new host will have to establish his credentials for making a place in viewers’ minds. Leno of course asked his viewers to support O’Brien as much as they have supported him. Among the people whom he especially thanked were Bill Clinton, Monica Lewinsky, George Bush and Michael Jackson.
