Los Angeles, Mar 3 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Jay Leno is back to hosting ‘The Tonight Show’ after a lot of drama that involved sacking the former host of the show Conan O’Brien, and even breaking his contract and paying him a severance package. Conan O’Brien and NBC parted ways in a sad way, as Conan was kicked from the host’s chair, paid a severance package even though he had shifted lock, stock and barrel to Los Angeles for the sake of this show, with his team. In the end, he had to pay severance to his team from his own pocket.
Prior to Conan O’Brien being the host of the show, Jay Leno was the host, but he was axed because the ratings were poor. NBC also had to axe ‘The Jay Leno Show’ earlier this year, because there were a lot of complaints from the local affiliates, who said that the show had a very poor viewership and this was in turn, providing a weak lead into their own late night shows as well.
It remains to be seen how Jay Leno will fare as the host of ‘The Tonight Show’ the second time around. After the high-profile drama around the channel and Conan O’Brien, it remains to be seen whether Jay Leno can work his magic and charm on the audience, and make the Conan issue a thing of the past. “They have to go back to the formula that was working, and they have to hope they get the viewers back,” according to Marc Berman, who is a senior TV writer with Mediaweek.
