Javier Bardem Dedicated Cannes Award To Penelope Cruz

May 25, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Spanish actor, Javier Bardem, who won the Best Actor prize along with Elio Germano at the Cannes Film Festival dedicated it to girlfriend, Penelope Cruz. Bardem who plays the role of a terminally-ill criminal in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Biutiful for the first time showed affection to Cruz.

In his acceptance speech after receiving the award, Bardem said that he shares this joy with his friend, his companion, his love: Penelope. In his first public acknowledgement of their relationship he added that he owes and love her a lot. He then blew a kiss to Cruz, who understandably moved by the speech was seen wiping a tear from her eye.

The couple who acted together in Woody Allen’s Vicky Christina Barcelona began dating in 2007 while always maintaining a low public profile. They dismissed the reports of being engaged and refused to talk about their relationship status.

Bardem received critical acclaim for roles in films such as Carne trauma, Boca a Boca, Los Lunes Al Sol and Mar Adentro. He is the first ever Spanish actor to be nominated for an Oscar for Before Night Falls as well as the first to win for Supporting Actor for the film No Country for Old Men.

He was considered to play fictional filmmaker Guido Contini in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical Nine; before it went to Daniel Day-Lewis.
