Jane Lynch fears that gay actors wouldn’t get leading roles
January 15th, 2011 - 12:05 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattLos Angeles, Jan 14 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Jane Lynch believes that Hollywood might never risk give openly gay actors leading roles.
During an interview with the Internet outfit AfterElton.com, Lynch said that she doesn’t believe that gay men will, ever be given leading roles. Lynch who is a lesbian herself indicated that due to the market forces, it will take time before gay men could be given leading roles.
She believes that because most of the viewers are straight, they can’t relate so much with gay men in leading roles.
She said that, “I don’t know when or if that will ever happen… Because the leading man and lady are the person we want them to fall in love with, and most of the audience is straight. So for right now, we can only use straight actors.”
Lynch believes that because Hollywood was so much interested in the money that comes in, the problem will take a very long time to go. Her sentiments have been shared earlier by other actors as well.
Richard Chamberlain and Rupert Everett said that gay actors who come out with their sexual preference risk their career if not their roles.
