London, Nov 29 (THAINDIAN NEWS) James Thornton has confirmed that he will be leaving the soap Emmerdale next year. The 38-year-old had been part of the show from 2009 and has played the role of John Barton since then. Barton took over from the Sudgen family as the manager of the Butler’s Farm.

Confirming reports that he will leaving the show next year, Thornton said that, “I have had a fantastic time playing John for the past three years, but it’s the longest I have ever played one part and the time now feels right to move on. I have decided to leave on a high with a big exit storyline in 2012, which I’m really excited about. I will miss all my colleagues at Emmerdale and have many very fond memories of my time in the Dales.”

Series’ producer Stuart Blackburn paid a glowing tribute to Thornton. Blackburn said Thornton gave his all on the set and his absence will be greatly felt. He however agreed with Thornton that the show has come up with a dramatic script that will be appreciated by the viewers of the ITV1 show. The producers plan to keep the plot as close to the chest as possible.

Thornton is married to Joana Page. The two got married in December 2003. Joana is famous for her role in Gavin And Stacey.
