James MacArthur of ‘Hawaii Five-O’ Dies age 72

Oct 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) James MacArthur, the stage and television actor bet known as “Danno” from the original television series “Hawaii Five-O”, Passed away on Thursday at the age of seventy-two years, according to the Associated Press.

The actor’s agent, Richard Lewis reports that the actor died of natural causes, but did not give the cause of death.

MacArthur’s role as Detective Danny Williams on the television hit lasted from 1968 to 1980. Many of the episodes ended with Detective Steve McGarrett saying the show’s catch phrase, “Book ‘em, Danno”. Jack Lord, who played the part of McGarrett died in 1998.

But MacArthur had quit the show a year before it ended. He explained on his website that he had simply gotten bored wit it all. “The stories became more bland and predictable and presented less and less challenge to me as an actor,” he said. With 278 episodes, Hawaii Five-O is one of the longest running shows in history.

He is survived by his wife of over 25 years, Helen Beth Duntz, four children and seven grandchildren.
