July 11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Maverick film director James Cameron who is known for his movies that woo the critics and viewers equally has surpassed his previous records with the magnum opus ‘Avatar’ that was released last year. The movie which has broken the box office record set by many Hollywood blockbusters has also made him a rich man in less than a year of its release. According to the latest data the Oscar winning film director has earned a whopping $350 million from this movie. The movie stormed the box office after its release all over the world but at that time nobody had thought that he will earn such an astronomical amount.

The movie has grossed $2.7 billion at the global box office and got $130 million from its Blu Ray and DVD sales. On August 27 the director is going to re release the film which means it will continue to fetch him more profits. It is quite ironical to think that a few years back the director was called the busiest unemployed man in Hollywood by a reputed news television show. At that time he was busy making the breakthrough in 3D technology that has made ‘Avatar’ a milestone in the history of Hollywood. Now the director is having the last laugh and his detractors are nowhere to be seen.

The director has also hinted that he will make 2 sequels to ‘Avatar’ which are also expected to do great business. The amount he has earned for Avatar crosses the amount he got paid for his previous blockbuster ‘Titanic’. Now he is busy in converting Titanic from 2D to 3D format.
