James CameronLos Angeles, Jan 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The 67th annual Golden Globe awards turned out to be a spectacular event for much acclaimed director James Cameron, as his science fiction blockbuster “Avatar” was named the winner in the Best Drama film category. At the same time, the director was also honored for his directing skills as he received the Best Director Golden Globe Award for his animated 3-D movie. James Cameron attended the much anticipated event with his wife Suzy Amis and the couple surely had enough reasons to smile as “Avatar” ruled the award ceremony, which was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday night.

After his movie bagged the award for the best drama feature film, the Canadian director exclaimed that making movies and entertaining audiences all across the globe, is surely the best job in the world. James Cameron’s win at the award ceremony last night did not come as a surprise as his sci-fi spectacle “Avatar” has already grossed around $1.6 billion all across the world and is still going strong at the international box office.

However, in order to win the much coveted prize, the reputed filmmaker had to beat his ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow, who also received nominations in the same category for directing the war thriller “The Hurt Locker”.

Meanwhile, the filmmaker had earlier received the Golden Globe for his hugely successful film “Titanic” in 1998, which later also bagged 11 Academy Awards. The success of “Avatar” in the Golden Globe points to the possibility that the 3-D extravaganza would also be well received at the Academy Awards this year.
