Los Angeles, May 4 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The director of the musical movie “Moulin Rouge!” Baz Luhrmann, says he considered giving Jake Gyllenhaal the leading role of the movie. In an interview with MTV, Lurhmann praised Jake for his voice saying the actor has a “tremendous voice.”

It has been ten years since the movie was released. Lurhmann said Jake was at the audition for the movie. He shared that Jake sang during the audition and he was impressed with what Jake did. He even went ahead to recommend Jake for the highly successful FOX show “Glee.”

Lurhmann revealed that host of stars auditioned for the role but it eventually went to Ewan McGregor. Nicole Kidman also had the female lead role which Courtney Love went the extra length to have. Lurhmann revealed that Love was influential in getting one of songs of Kurt Cobain for the movie. Love is the widow of Cobain which made it possible for the song “Smells Like Teen Spirit” to be eventually used in the movie.

Lurhmann is convinced that he knows the singing capabilities of most of the stars at Hollywood.

He said that, “I have audition material of people you wouldn’t believe. I know who can really sing, people who’ve got amazing voices.”
