Jailed George Michael ‘at self-harm risk’
September 24th, 2010 - 2:50 pm ICT by ANILondon, Sep 24 (ANI): Incarcerated George Michael is at risk of self-harm, prison officers have been warned.
Court staff monitoring the pop idol’s moments after his conviction over a drug-fuelled car smash gave the warning.
It will stay on record for his remaining term in jail, even though he is now in a cushy open jail and has insisted that he isn’t depressed.
“A self-harm warning is typically added if a prisoner gives court security staff reason to fear for their state of mind. If Michael had told them he did not think he could cope with going to prison and showed signs of mental breakdown, then a self-harm and suicide alert would instantly be filed,” The Sun quoted a source as saying.
The warning came at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court, which heard how the ex ‘Wham!’ singer crashed his Range Rover into a Snappy Snaps shop in Hampstead, North West London.
Medics saw him within hours of arriving at Pentonville prison. However, now he has transferred to Highpoint Jail in Suffolk.
A Prison Service spokeswoman refused to comment on individual prisoners. (ANI)
