London, Aug 4 (ANI): Michael Jackson’s sensational final on-screen appearance is being tipped to receive a posthumous Oscar.
Footage showing the singer rehearsing for his concerts at London’s O2 Arena is being used in a feature-length documentary to be released later this year.
And a cinema release means it will be eligible for Oscar selection.
The documentary will feature behind-the-scenes footage, including Jackson’s last-ever Moonwalk.
It will also show three music videos planned as a backdrop to his gigs and a new digitally enhanced version of Thriller.
Choreographer Kenny Ortega, 59, is to direct the 35-million-pound film, which is funded by Sony.
“This is going to be one of the biggest films of all time,” the Daily Star quoted a Hollywood insider as saying.
“You only have to look at the amount of people across the world who turned out to mourn for Michael Jackson to realise what a blockbuster it will be.
“With Sony behind it it will be very slick,” the insider added.
A source added: “I’m not saying Michael Jackson is going to win Best Actor but I’m sure the film will be nominated in some categories. Michael had many friends in the business so it’s in with a great chance.” (ANI)
