On Monday, the jury at a Los Angeles court returned the verdict of guilty against Murray. The court is expected to sentence Murray at the end of the month.
Addressing the verdict, the family released a statement which was published by the celebrity website TMZ. The statement said that, “We have been waiting for this moment for a very long time and we couldn’t hold back tears of joy in the courtroom. Even though nothing can bring back our son, justice has finally been served! We can’t wait to go home and share this day with Michael’s children.”
The family of Michael Jackson did not give formal press conference after the verdict was read but they gave individual reactions when they got out of the courthouse. Jackson’s mother, Katherine, described the verdict as “Justice…served.”
There were 17 members of the Jackson family at the courthouse on Monday. Friends and sympathizers of the late singer were also at the courthouse to hear the verdict of the jury. Jackson’s brother Jermaine said he felt “wonderful” about the verdict that was reached.
Murray is due to be sentenced on the 29th of November. He could be sentenced to a maximum of four years in jail and his medical license could be revoked as well.
