Ja Rule to begin his prison sentence today
June 9th, 2011 - 1:13 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York, June 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Rapper Ja Rule will begin his two-year jail sentence on Wednesday (the 8th of June). Ja Rule is expected to report to the officials at Upstate New York correctional facility in the morning.
Ja Rule was jailed after he was convicted of illegally possessing loaded firearm in 2007. Charges were brought against the singer by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office and a judge found him guilty of the charge sentencing him to two years in prison. Ja Rule was coincidentally arrested on the same night as Lil Wayne whom he collaborated with on the track “Lollipop.” Wayne was found guilty on the same charge last year and jailed for 8 months.
35-year-old Ja Rule has indicated in the past that he has regretted his action. During an interview with MTV News, Ja Rule said that, “My daughter, she’s 15 right now. These are her last couple of years. She’s about to graduate from high school, and she’s going to college. She needs her father. My boys really need me right now too, as well as my wife. They need Daddy, and Daddy f—ed up.”
Ja Rule could spend more time in jail. The singer has pleaded guilty to the charge of failing to pay more than $3 million in state taxes in New Jersey. He could face up to three years in jail for that.
