Onir’s I Am will be premiered on the inaugural day of the festival and the Bollywood movie Mirch, a Big Pictures’ production, will mark the end of the gala.
The festival director, Myna Mukherjee, said that cinema is a most powerful and effective way to make reforms in the societies and change the mindset of people who are silent about fundamental issues of human rights, gender and social iniquities. She expressed her thrills over the amplification of the festival’s mission with many voices as a most popular media to throw focus on the issues.
Onir’s I Am is a sharp focus on common and conflicting issues like homosexuality, unmarried motherhood and childhood sex abuse in India. The United Nations Development Program has supported the director’s motive behind this movie.
Mirch, directed by Vinay Shukla, is an album of four stories having infidelity as common theme. It stars Raima Sen, Konkona Sen Sharma, Vinay Shukla, Shreyas Talpade, Prem Chopra, Arunoday Singh, Boman Irani and Shahana Goswami.
Dunno Y… Na Jaane Kyun, directed by Sanjay Sharma, too, will be premiered at the festival. It is all about how a struggling model arrives in Mumbai in quest of fortune and fame, and ends up having a relationship with a man. It stars Zeenat Aman, Rituparna Sengupta, Helen, Kapil Sharma and Maradona Rebello.
