its_a_wonderful_life_stort-1Dec.13, (THAINDIAN NEWS) ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ has always been regarded to be a great movie. This movie has been shown numerous times on popular TV channels during Christmas and the performances by Donna Reed, Lionel Barrymore and James Stewart remain unforgettable even so many years later. A few days back, an aviation squad in Iraq drew motivation from this classic movie to resist the growing depression in its soldiers. The staffs of Task Force 38 decided to make a spoof on this movie, to address the growing trend of suicide among a section of soldiers.

The idea was implemented by a brigade judge advocate named Col. Dan Kozlowski, who is an Indianapolis native and David Wood. The latter is a commander in TF 38. They agreed that the movie has an inspiring theme. A lot of people including the soldiers who are engaged in war in remote countries for long, tend to suffer from depression and this trend intensifies during the holiday season. Therefore, they decided to send a positive message to the soldiers to pull up their spirits.

Kozlowski said that the spoof named ‘It’s a Wonderful Deployment’ was made over a period of three months. The play is set at a National Guard Armory. The protagonist and other characters are related to Military. In the Christmas movie the character of George Bailey chose the path of suicide. This is a choice some soldiers take when they find it unbearable to stay apart from the world and the things they like. The spoof tries to convey the message that by committing suicide nothing is achieved in life.
