Is Rolling Stone’s ‘True Blood’ Cover Too Much Blood and Nudity?

Aug 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Back in 1999, the famous ‘Rolling Stone’ magazine featured a lingerie clad Brittany Spears, sitting by a Teletubbie, as people across the country protested the “end of the innocence” and pointed out the inevitable sexualization of the American culture, but the September 2010 cover featuring blood and total nudity has many wondering if the controversial magazine has gone too far.

The cover picture shows the stars of the American television vampire series ‘True Blood’ pressed against each other wearing nothing but cranberry colored fake blood stains. Alexander Skarsgard, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer form the threesome group which is featured on next month’s cover.

While Anna Paquin and her fiance, Stephen Moyer both wear something over their private area which cannot be seen in the photo, Alexander Skarsgard stated, “I don’t want a sock around it, that feels ridiculous. If we’re naked in the scene, then I’m naked. I’ve always been that way.”

Often called the “adult version of Twilight”, ‘True Blood’ has much more sexual content, nudity and violence than the ‘Twilight’ movie series, which draws in so many teens. Some fear that those vampire loving youths will be drawn to the television show, and be exposed to that “vulgarity”.

But Alan Ball is apparently not worried about this potential. The 53 year old creator of the show stated, “To me, vampires are sex. I don’t get a vampire story about abstinence. I’m 53. I don’t care about high school students. I find them irritating and uninformed.”
