Suneet Varma has created this wonder in just 10 weeks. He took the help of 55 artisans and 8 designers to prepare the 55 metres long and 45 inch wide sari in 26,400 hours. However, the recognition from the ‘Limca Book of Records’ has come as a sweet surprise for the designer.

We all know about the popular mythological story about Draupadi’s ‘chirharan’, which has inspired the Delhi-based designer to make such a long sari. This longest sari will cost Rs 885, 000.

On this latest venture, Varma said that he has always considered sari as a long canvas on which he can draw various interesting and extraordinary things. He has also taken inspiration from wedding ceremonies, contemporary India, the religious iconography of the goddesses and natural beings that are depicted in Indian textiles.

This wonderful sari has been prepared by using different colors like lime green, orange, red, yellow, fushia pink and cobalt blue. The materials used include silk-georgette, which has been dyed with the colors listed above. It has a three-inch border that runs patch work of silk brocade and satin.

The designer has used several techniques such as satin printed patchwork, applique of silk georgette, thread work in aari, hand sequence embroidery, hand-sprinkle of bead work and mirror work in that longest sari.

Now, we will wait to know about the list of buyers, who will own this sari!
