India-born Tariq Anwar misses Oscar for best editing

Los Angeles, Feb 28 (IANS) India-born film editor Tariq Anwar, nominated for the Oscar in the best editing category for “The King’s Speech”, lost out to Angus Wall and Kirk Baxter who won it for “The Social Network” at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards here.Raised in Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh, Anwar has been working as a film editor in Britain for more than two decades and has worked on films like “The Good Shepherd” and “Sylvia”.
This was his second nomination for the Oscar. In 1999, he was nominated for “American Beauty”.
Besides Anwar, Indian music composer A.R. Rahman was nominated in two categories - best original score and best original song for Danny Boyle’s “127 Hours”. However, he too lost out on the honour.
In 2009, Rahman had brought back two Oscars for his music in “Slumdog Millionaire”.
