Addis Ababa, May 21 (IANS) An India-Africa Media Partnership Symposium was held Saturday in Ethiopia’s capital city Addis Ababa, in line with the 2nd Africa-India Forum Summit to be held May 24, Xinhua reported.

The Symposium brought together journalists and media practitioners from Africa and India to brainstorm on enhancing media engagement and synergies to build an Africa-India multi-dimensional media partnership.

Speaking at opening of the Symposium, Vivek Katju, Secretary with the India’s Ministry of External Affairs, said by bringing together leading media personalities of India and Africa, the symposium filled a critical gap in the interactive processes.

The symposium would help to establish direct contacts between Indian and African media leading to partnerships which would significantly contribute to the addition in the knowledge of each other in all dimensions, he stated.

“I believe that such direct contacts will prove vastly beneficial in fostering a greater understanding of each other,” he said.

The symposium included different sessions which touched subject like Understanding Indian and African media, and Connecting Media and the Road Ahead.

The participants deliberated upon a practical approach to foster closer media linkages, and the role of new media, use of technology and desirability of stationing African correspondents in India, besides setting up institutional mechanisms to exchange information.

The Symposium on India-Africa Media Partnership will indeed build the bridge in strengthening the cooperation ties between Africa and India and bring to light the efforts done by both sides, to better the living conditions of their populations, said the African Union (AU).
