‘Inception’ earns Rs.75 mn in opening weekend in India
July 20th, 2010 - 9:10 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, July 20 (IANS) Leonardo DiCaprio starrer sci-fi action thriller “Inception” has raked in Rs.7.5 crore (Rs.75 million) in its initial weekend in India.
Helmed by Christopher Nolan, the Warner Bros. Pictures’ movie also stars Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger and Michael Caine.
“With a Chris Nolan film we knew that we had a winner, but given the complexity of the film it was crucial that we handle the marketing and the distribution with the same passion with which the film was made,” Denzil Dias, deputy managing director (Theatrical) of Warner Bros. Pictures India, said in a statement.
Grossing about $60.4 million at the US box-office at 3,792 locations, the film released in India in four languages - English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu - with 300 prints.
Essentially a caper movie, it centres around Dom Cobb (DiCaprio), a thief who enters the dreams of others to obtain information that is otherwise inaccessible. His abilities have cost him coveted things but a second chance allows the situation to be turned around.
However, when an unforeseen enemy predicts his every move, Cobb and his team are forced to plant an idea in a target’s subconscious. The film’s title refers to the task of planting an idea rather than stealing one, a concept that Cobb is less acquainted with.
