mayLos Angeles, Feb 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Irish singer Imelda May performed at the 2010 Grammy Awards. A singer of the rockability genre, the London based singer sang the famous “How High The Moon,” as a tribute to the legendary guitarist Les Paul. She performed along with Jeff Beck, an Irish guitarist. Although she has never won an award at the Grammys, she had been conferred the title of the Best Irish Female Singer at the Meteor Ireland Music Awards, which is the Irish equivalent of the Grammys, the top musical honors of the United States.

No doubt that playing at the Grammys was a memorable experience for Imelda May. Not only was it the thrill of performing at the biggest music awards in the United States, her performance was also historic in a way, considering that as of the night of Jan 31, she became the second Irish singer to have had the honor of performing at the awards, the other one being U2. Her performance at the Grammys indeed justifies the nomenclature that has been lovingly conferred upon her, the “Irish Amy Winehouse.”

Needless to say, the performance was loved by all. It was electric, to say the least. The crowd got another taste of true Irish music after U2, and the fact that endeared Imelda May even more to the audience was the fact that she sang her song with a strong Irish inflection in her pronunciation. Of course, the performance was rendered even more beautiful by the guitar accompaniment of Jeff Beck, who is considered by many to be one of the most talented guitarists of his era.
