Los Angeles, Oct 25(THAINDIAN NEWS) The Deadline.com website reports that IMAGI’s $65-million computer-animated movie adaptation of Osamu Tezuka’s Astro Boy earned an estimated $1.8 million on its opening day in the United States. It was released in around 3,000 theaters on October 23, and according to trade pundits, the film release had an estimated per-screen average of $600. It is being estimated that it will earn $7 million this weekend.

In comparison, Ponyo debuted at No.9 with around $1,174,539 on its August 14 opening day in around 900 plus U.S.theaters. Its per-screen average was $1,267, and it has grossed a whooping $15,006,092 as of October 22. Dragonball: Evolution opened on April 10 at No. 8 with $2,174,663 in 2,181 theaters. Its per-screen average was $997, and it ended its American run with a record $9,362,785.

The director of this adaptation is David Bowers, who also co-wrote the amazing script with Timothy Hyde Harris. The voice cast includes Freddie Highmore, Kristen Bell, Bill Nighy and Nathan Lane. The art decoration look of the film’s architecture has a classic and a timeless appeal. But the whole movie seems like a mish mash of too many movies competing simultaneously. Fundamentally it is essentially a standard tale of good versus evil.
