Mumbai, Oct 1 (IANS) Anupam Ahuja was “overwhelmed” and “extremely relieved” after her actor-husband Shiney Ahuja was granted bail Thursday after three months of judicial custody on charges of raping his domestic help.
“This decision by the court has been overwhelming. I am so happy that our daughter has got her father back, Shiney’s parents have got their son back and I have got my husband back,” Anupam told reporters here after the ruling by the Bombay High Court.
Shiney has been granted the bail on a surety of Rs.50,000 and on the condition that he must not leave the country. The actor will be required to live in New Delhi and refrain from tampering with evidence in any manner, said his lawyer Shirish Gupte.
“I am thankful to all those who prayed for Shiney’s well being and all those who gave good arguments in the court. The case was presented very well,” said Anupam, who has been protesting Shiney’s innocence since the day he was taken into custody.
Shiney was arrested June 14 and was in custody since then. Following an assurance by Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, the case was transferred from a sessions court to a fast-track court in Sewri last month.
If the charges against him are proved in the court, Shiney faces a minimum seven-year jail sentence.
