I’m happy for the entire team: National Film Awards winner

New Delhi, Jan 23 (IANS) Bollywood director Dibakar Banerjee, whose joyous, bumpy crime caper “Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!” was announced the best popular film at the 56th National Film Awards Saturday, says that it is a happy moment not just for him but for his entire team.
“I’m very happy not just for myself but for my entire team. Everyone had put in so much effort,” Banerjee told IANS.
“The kind of circumstances we work in are very difficult so when we get something like this, it feels great,” he added.
Starring Abhay Deol, Neetu Chandra and Paresh Rawal, “Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!” revolves around a thief named Lucky (Abhay) who nonchalantly enters Delhi’s well-to-do homes, picks up television sets and sound systems, and walks out in broad daylight.
The film was inspired by true incidents or stories that make headlines in newspapers and magazines. It is an amalgamation of various elements like satire, obsession with material wealth, culture of acquisition and paparazzi.
The citation read that the film bagged the award “for its intelligent treatment of an off-beat subject that makes it different within the popular format”.
When asked about his celebration plans, the director revealed: ” There are no plans of celebration at the moment because I am extremely tied up with the production related work for my upcoming film “Love, Sex Aur Dhoka”.
“Once that is over, we can have a nice time, remembering the happy moments while shooting ‘Oye Lucky…’,” he added.
This is the second National award for Banerjee. He earlier won the best Hindi film award at the 54th ceremony for his hilarious take on property mafia in “Khosla Ka Ghosla”. The film starred Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Parveen Dabas and Ranvir Shorey in key roles.
So is he hoping for a hat-trick with his yet-to-release digital film “Love, Sex Aur Dhoka”?
“I don’t know. When we make films we don’t think about awards. We just do our job with complete dedication. Let’s see what happens with this one,” quipped the director.
The film that has been produced by Ekta Kapoor is slated to release March 5.
