June 3, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Singer John Mayer’s European tour has been canceled owing to his illness. The shows that were scheduled to be held in Amsterdam, Madrid and Manchester have been adjourned and Mayer has reportedly flown back to America.

On May 30th, Mayer had performed in Denmark but his second show which was scheduled on Monday, May 31 was called off after he fell sick.

A statement posted on his official website read that his shows have been canceled due an intestinal illness that was aggravated after the first night of the two planned Copenhagen concerts. The statement further said that Mayer was suffering from dizziness, nausea and dehydration which made him unable to perform.

He is expected to have a complete recovery under the supervision of doctors in America. Mayer is listed for a show in North Carolina on July 17 and his staff members believe that his illness will be cured before that and it won’t affect the North American tour, which runs from July to September this year.

Mayer first came into public notice with his albums Room for Squares and Heavier Things. His single ‘Your Body Is a Wonderland’ earned him a Grammy Award for the Best Male Pop Vocal Performance in 2003.

Starting with acoustic rock, he eventually moved to the blues genre in 2005 and collaborated with well-known blues artists like B. B. King, Buddy Guy, and Eric Clapton. He won the Best Pop Vocal Album for Continuum and his first single from the album got him a Grammy for the Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
