IIFI 2011: Malayalam films dominate Indian panorama
October 18th, 2011 - 10:29 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Oct 18 (IANS) After regional films grabbed the most National Awards this year, the Indian Panorama section of the 42nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI), to be held in Goa Nov 23-Dec 3, will see maximum films from the Malayalam genre. “Urumi” will be the opening film.
Seven Malayalam films, including “Bombay March 12″, “Chappa Kurishu”, “Karmayogi”, “Melvilasom” and “Traffic”, apart from “Urumi” figure in the lineup.
“Adaminte Makan Abu”, which won the National Award for the best feature film this year and is India’s official entry for the Oscars, will also be screened. It got a direct entry to this year’s IFFI.
Of the 24 feature films at the annual fest, three Bengali, Marathi and Hindi movies each will be showcased. One each has been selected in Konkani, Telugu, Manipuri, Tamil, English, Kannada, Assamese and Bhojpuri, said a statement issued by the information and broadcasting ministry.
The jury for feature films, headed by veteran filmmaker Sai Paranjpe, selected the films out of 118 eligible entries.
In the non-feature film category, the jury for which was chaired by writer-director Ashok Rane, 21 films will be screened. These were shortlisted out of 135 eligible entries.
