Sao Paulo, Oct 10 (IANS/EFE) Spanish singer Julio Iglesias, who is on an eight-concert tour of Brazil, said in an interview that he “was a bad singer” when he recorded his first songs and had decided to re-record them for the “Volume I” album.

“You only get better with time and I’ll be even better in 10 years,” Iglesias told the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper.

The singer’s album will feature songs like “Hey”, “Me Olvide de Vivir” and “Manuela”, as well as some versions sung in Portuguese.

The album is hitting the market amid an economic downturn that is affecting music sales.

“There is a crisis, but music and artists are always going to exist. The rest can be done,” Iglesias said.

After the US, Brazil is the country where Iglesias has appeared the most.

His current tour includes a stop in Olinda, a city in the northeastern state of Pernambuco, “which is the poorest, but it gets rid of its ills with song”, Iglesias said.

The Spanish singer, who has sold more than 300 albums in different languages, is starting his Brazil tour with concerts Saturday and Sunday at Sao Paulo’s HSBC Theater.

He will perform on Tuesday in Olinda, Thursday in Brasilia and Oct 15 in Curitiba.

Iglesias will wrap up his tour with performances in Rio de Janeiro Oct 17, Porto Alegre Oct 20 and Florianopolis Oct 22.
