Even though Kunal Khemu’s ‘99′ is arriving at the time when there is still no clarity around the stand off between producers and multiplexes seeing some sort of resolution, the actor insists that ‘personally’, he supports the strike.
“If you ask me, then honestly speaking I support the stand that the producers have taken. I personally support this strike and even though my own film is releasing on 8th May, I am hoping that the strike is called off by then”, says Kunal Khemu for which ‘99′ would mark his third release of the year after ‘Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge’ and ‘Jai Veeru’.
Since this film directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK is arriving at a time when the producers v/s multiplexes stand off is at it’s peak, doesn’t he feel that releasing ‘99′ would be seen as the producers unity being broken and hence won’t go down well with their association.
“I completely understand what you are saying and also empathise with the situation. But then as an actor my job is to work on a film and then promote it when called for the job. My contract says so and I can’t budge from that. Moreover, I don’t really have a say in the film’s release. I am sure producers of the film would have the best answer to their decision behind releasing the film at this time”, details Kunal who would be seen with Soha Ali Khan yet again this year after ‘Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge’.
Didn’t he think of bringing up this topic with Anupam Mittal and Aditya Shastri, the producers of the film?
Kunal is quick to respond here, “Yes, I did have a word with them and asked them if we were sure about bringing the film now. In fact the film was even postponed from it’s original release date of 1st May to 8th May as we believe that the strike may see an end by that time. I still hope that happens but at the end of the day, ‘99′ is the property of the producers and it is their prerogative to release it when they feel is the best time.”
There are hopes though that with no releases in the past and nothing concrete in the future, ‘99′ should be able to quench the thirst of millions of movie buffs who are waiting for their regular Friday dose of movies.
“I know that it has been ages since a movie has released in theatres, due to which ‘99′ brings with it a lot of expectations. Well, all I can promise is that ‘99′ is an out and out entertainer and you won’t be disappointed. It may not blow your mind but would definitely keep you thoroughly engaged and entertained in those two hours”, concludes Kunal. -Sampurn Media
