Hugh Grant to testify in the phone hacking scandal
November 21st, 2011 - 7:38 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLondon, Nov 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The UK government is investigating the phone hacking scandal that rocked the country earlier this year. Several people have been lined up to testify in the enquiry. Actor Hugh Grant is among the people invited to testify before the committee on Monday.
When he appears before the court, Grant is expected to testify against the intrusion of the privacy of his daughter’s mother. The actor and Chinese actress Hong Tinglan have a child together.
The phone hacking scandal rocked the British press system to the core resulting in the closure of one of the oldest newspapers in the country, News of the World. Sally and Bob Dowler, parents of murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler will testify before the Leveson Inquiry on Monday.
The parents are expected to blame the News of the World for the death of their child. The initial investigation into the conduct of the newspaper revealed that the newspaper hacked into the phone of the schoolgirl and deleted saved messages. The family says the action gave them false hope when in fact their daughter was in trouble all the while.
The newspaper which is owned by Rupert Murdock’s News Corps is accused of hacking into the phone systems of several people including stars and politicians.
