Hugh Grant gets the court ruling in his favor in the hacking scandal
July 20th, 2011 - 10:23 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLondon, July 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Actor Hugh Grant scored a major victory when he managed to get a court ruling in his favor in the infamous hacking scandal. Now the London’s Metropolitan Police would need to give the actor all the documents, which relate to the incident in which his voice mails were illegally hacked at the insistence of a News of the World official.
It ought to be mentioned that the police had gotten in touch with Hugh Grant and the ex-wife of Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan – Jemima Khan and then apprised them that their voice mails might have been compromised by a private investigator who was hired by the News of the World. The private investigator in question is Glenn Mulcaire, who was later jailed for his role in the whole scandal.
Subsequently, Jemima Khan and Hugh Grant requested the court to grant them an order in which the police would hand over to them any such documents of the hacked voice mails on the 14th of July. The Metropolitan Police officials were okay with the request and so the court ruling was made today in favor of the actor.
According to his lawyer David Sherborne, “there is a clear inference that Mr. Mulcaire may have accessed the claimants’ voice mail. They need this information in order to bring proceedings against Mulcaire or News Group.”
