London, Jan 30 (ANI): Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell has revealed why she left her ‘girl power’ out and chose an ‘alpha male’ to be with.
In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail, Halliwell spoke about her love life, beauty perception, and motherhood.Halliwell has been in a happy relationship for two years with 32-year-old Henry Beckwith, a heir to a property empire and cousin of socialite Tamara. She wants to be looked after by her man, and at the same time be an independent strong female.
“It takes a hell of a strong man to be with someone like me. I think he has a strong enough sense of self, but what I love about him is that he loves me for me. He doesn’t buy into any of the image. He finds it amusing and fun, but he’s not intoxicated by it,’” she said.”He’s very supportive and very encouraging. He’s strong and very kind. He won’t let me push him around. He’s the first alpha male I’ve gone out with and that’s why it’s working. I have a lot in common with Henry. For me the most important thing is integrity, loyalty and spirit, the kindness of the person. The character of the man. Completely fundamental,” she added.Halliwell and Beckwith, however, have no immediate plans to get married or have children. She attributed her success to the drive, or ‘extra gas in the tank’ she acquired when her father died when she was 21.
“His death had a massive impact. At such a young age, it was a shocking realisation that people can love you and then leave you. And also my parents were divorced, so I felt very distrusting of relationships and depending on anybody so I tried to become very self-dependent, which is a bit lonely.”Asked how the last decade turned out for her, the 38-year-old said her four-and-a-half year old daughter Bluebell is her ‘biggest gift’ and she is enjoying her motherhood, instilling good values in Bluebell. She is also happy with how she looks these days.
Recently, she had designed Next’s swimwear range and modelled for it. The bikinis and photos on her coffee table gave ample proof of how happy she is nowadays with her look.
“I’ve stopped trying to be something I’m not - accepting that this is my shape and I’ve got to make the best of it,” she said.
Having got a fluctuating body that changes weight to the extremes, she knows best what suits whom.Halliwell said, as time passed, she grew mature and she could overcome her problems concerning food and body image. She has realised that there are more serious things in the world to think about. On Spice Girls, she said, “they’re like family members to me. It’s one of those things that I don’t see them all the time but when I do, it feels like yesterday and we go back to our original roles. It’s quite funny.” (ANI)
