hope-4-haiti Jan 23, (THAINDIAN NEWS) On Friday, a telethonHope for Haiti” was held where eminent singers sang wide variety of songs of different genres. The attempt was to raise fund for the people affected in the Haiti earthquake. MTV, along with some other channels aired that show uninterrupted for spreading awareness and support which the nation badly needs.

As per the reports of last week, United States managed to raise around $200 million for providing an aid. The MTV concert is adding more money to that fund. Most of the numbers performed would be released for download on iTunes. This will help in fund raising. The evening saw some amazing collaborative performances by Jay-Z, Rihanna and U2 and Sheryl Crow and Kid Rock. It even included country performers Taylor Swift and Keith Urban, Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson, R&B singers Mary J. Blige, Justin Timberlake, Wyclef Jean and Bruce Springsteen.

The performance took place in New York, Los Angeles, London and Haiti. Madonna’s performance was outstanding in the evening. She sang “Like a Prayer” and touched the audience. Apart from Madonna, Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris’s duet performance of Leonardo Cohen’s “Hallelujah” was another amazing number of the evening. Stars like Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon and Steven Spielberg received phone calls which further helped the fund raising process. Some excellent stories of rescue and survival were told by Matt Damon and Clint Eastwood. Overall, it was a nice experience and an entertaining attempt of raising money. More such performances need to come so that the poorest nation of the Western Hemisphere can soon see streaks of sunshine.
