Homer Simpson Voted The Greatest Onscreen Character

homerJune 2, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Leaving behind boy wizard Harry Potter and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, the animated father of “The Simpsons”, Homer Simpson has topped the list of the greatest television and film characters of the last twenty years. The survey was conducted by a reputed entertainment news source which asked the viewers to vote for their most loved characters. The other characters who have been able to make it to the list of the top ten are Tony Soprano, “Batman” villain The Joker, “Friends” Rachel Green, Johnny Depp’s “Edward Scissorhands”, Hannibal Lecter, Carrie Bradshaw and Spongebob Squarepants.

Matt Groening the creator of “The Simpsons” said to media sources after the survey results were declared that the character of Homer Simpson has gone on to become one of the most popular as people can relate to him. He added that every human being is “secretly propelled by desires” that they cannot admit to. According to Matt Groening, the very impulsive nature of Homer and his launching himself “head-first into every single impulsive thought that occurs to him” makes him a think of joy to watch for the viewers.

“The Simpsons” is one of the most popular animation series that is running on the American Prime-time television series for the last twenty one years. Apart from the survey results that points to the popularity of the show, “The Simpsons” has also to its credit 24 Emmy Awards, 23 Annie Awards, a Peabody Award and four Genesis Awards. It is reportedly watched in 90 countries around the world. The results of the survey therefore prove the fact that people can love Homer Simpson, they can hate Homer Simpson but they can never ignore him.
