hollywoodFeb 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) If things go right, then chances are there that you will find the big 450 ft long Hollywood sign vanish. In a bit to save the Cahuenga Peak that stands next to the Hollywood, the Public Trust For Lands group has decided to cover the Hollywood sign and put instead a huge banner that will say “Save the Peak”.

This attempt is being made by the conservationists who fear that the Fox River Financial Resources from Chicago, who bought the peak from billionaire Howard Hughes in 2002 might end up putting it on sale to industrialists who might then build up luxury hotels on it.

The conservationist group has time until April and needs to sum up enough money to buy the peak. This bid to cover the Hollywood sign is aimed to raise the money that is needed. It is already being said that they have been able to save half of the 12 million dollars that they need to buy it.

The permission to cover up this sign still awaits the final nod of the city authority and the Hollywood sign Trust, as said by Tim Ahern. However, the Los Angeles Police Department has already issued a community alert to all Hollywood residents and also asked them not to be alarmed if they find the sign covered.

According to Tom LaBonge, who is the local councilman and under whose district the Cahuenga Peak falls, this covering and appeal is being done to save the peak. He said, “The city of Los Angeles wants to acquire this land, not only to maintain the view of the Hollywood sign, but also to preserve open space, hiking trails and wildlife corridors for the future health of our great city.”
