Hindus and Jews ask Slovakia to apologize to Roma women victims of forced sterilization
December 1st, 2009 - 4:29 am ICT by Sampurn Wire ( Leave a comment )Following Czech Prime Minister’s landmark “regret” over involuntary sterilization of Roma women, Hindus and Jews have asked Slovakia also to accept the responsibility, offer “apology” and provide adequate financial compensation to the victims.
Rajan Zed, acclaimed Hindu statesman; and Rabbi Jonathan B. Freirich, prominent Jewish leader in Nevada and California in USA; in a joint statement in Nevada today, said that although crimes against these reportedly affected women were irreversible and they were permanently deprived from having children and misconduct in this case was very serious, it might help in somewhat healing of the deep wounds caused. Perpetrators should be prosecuted.
Apartheid like condition of Roma was a social blight for Slovakia and the European Union as they reportedly regularly faced social exclusion, racism, substandard education, hostility, joblessness, rampant illness, inadequate housing, lower life expectancy, unrest, living on desperate margins, stereotypes, mistrust, rights violations, discrimination, marginalization, appalling living conditions, prejudice, human rights abuse, etc., Zed and Freirich argued.
Rajan Zed and Rabbi Jonathan Freirich stressed that “Tatra Tiger”, one of the fastest growing economies and country of Juraj Jánošík should not continue staying apathetic and silent spectator ignoring Roma apartheid. It was moral obligation of Slovakia to take care of its most disadvantaged Roma population and stop human rights violations reportedly suffered by them. Ivan Gašparovič is President and Robert Fico is the Prime Minister of Slovakia.
References to Roma people in Europe, who are believed to have their roots in the Indian subcontinent, reportedly went as far back as ninth century AD.
