“Himachal Day” to showcase Himachali heritage for the first time in USAJune 3rd, 2009 - 10:17 am ICT by Sampurn Wire
Himachal Day will be reportedly held for the first time in USA at Milpitas (California) on June 14 to celebrate the culture of Himachal Pradesh state of India.
Complete with Himachali dances, culinary delicacies, music, folk fashions, displays, etc., at Milpitas India Community Center (ICC); it will bring few hundred Himachalis and friends of Himachal together. ICC has dedicated June as “Himachal Month” and is holding displays of Himachali crafts, paintings, pictures, etc., showcasing its rich cultural heritage.
Two prominent persons with links to Himachal Pradesh will be honored on the occasion—Dalip Singh Rana and Rajan Zed—who will be presented with plaque and shawl each. World Heavyweight Championship winner Rana (The Great Khali), with a billed height of 7′ 3″, is a professional wrestler with World Wrestling Entertainment, a power lifter, former Mr. India, and actor (Get Smart). Zed is a well-known Indo-American and Hindu statesman who has taken up Hindu, interfaith, religion, environment, Roma and other causes all over the world. He read the groundbreaking first Hindu opening prayer in United States Senate in Washington DC. He has been bestowed with “World Interfaith Leader Award”.
Coordinating committee, which is organizing this colorful event, includes community leaders Mahesh Nihalani, Asha Stokes Sharma, Colonel Vishnu Sharma, Dr.Meena Patyal, Sudha Stokes Puar, etc., who are collaborating with “My Himachal” of Philadelphia.
