Heres how Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban metDecember 28th, 2008 - 7:16 pm ICT by ANI
Melbourne, Dec 28 (ANI): A new book by author Jeff Apter has revealed how Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman met.
According to the book, apparently back in 2005 there was a big party to celebrate Australia and Mel Gibson, Nicole Kidman, and Keith Urban were all set to be honoured, reports the Daily Telegraph.
An excerpt from the book:
The press release was appropriately grand. “Urban joins Gibson and Kidman to celebrate Australia,”” it read.
“Keith Urban, actor Mel Gibson and actress Nicole Kidman will be honoured January 15 (2005) during a gala highlighting the second annual G”Day LA: Australia Week in Los Angeles.
“The event at the Century Plaza Hotel honours Australians who have made significant international contributions.
“Australia Week will showcase Australian food and wine, travel, film, arts, culture, fashion and business.
“It is produced through a partnership of the Australian Consulate in Los Angeles, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, TourismAustralia, Austrade and Qantas Airways.””
The annual celebration was to be attended by the honourees and such expats as Cameron Daddo, with whom Urban had recorded way back when, plus Tommy Emmanuel, actors Geoffrey Rush and Cate Blanchett, ageless songbird Olivia Newton-John and the then foreign affairs minister Alexander Downer, who claimed credit for introducing Urban and Kidman, but that simply wasn”t the case.
The original idea had been to “honour”” Australians Mel Gibson, Nicole Kidman and Delta Goodrem.
Gibson and Kidman, both Oscar-winning members of Hollywood royalty, deserved the honours but Goodrem was way out of her league.
Urban supporter Kerry Roberts, from the Nine Network (which was involved with the event), realised that Urban was a far worthier recipient.
Some intense lobbying by Roberts got Urbans name on the honourees list at the last moment, at the expense of Goodrem.
Kidman was the first honouree to claim her gong, which was handed over by fellow thespian Cate Blanchett.
Then, Mel Gibson was honoured by Geoffrey Rush and finally, Olivia Newton-John called Urban to the podium.
It was Roberts who introduced Urban to Kidman and quite innocently set in motion a very public affair, although it took its own sweet time to develop. (ANI)
