Hello Darling Faces Rights Problem From 20th Century Fox

August 27, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Bollywood has large numbers of films which are inspired from various English movies. There is nothing wrong to make inspired movies but when the credit is not given, the problem arises for such filmmakers. The latest in this line is Mukta Arts’ movie “Hello Darling’, which released today cross the country.
Producer Ashok Ghai’s “Hello Darling’ is said to be a remake of 1980’s American comedy film “Nine to Five’, which was distributed by 20th Century Fox, which called up Mukta Arts to inform that they still have the rights for the English movie. They said to the production house that the movie cannot be released.
Finally, Subhash Ghai, the bother of producer Ashok Ghai became the mediator to settle the issue at the last-minute.
“Nine to Five’ starred Jane Fonda, Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin and Dabney Coleman. This movie also showed three working women with their despotic and sexist boss like in “Hello Darling’.
The Hindi movie stars Eesha Koppikar, Celina Jaitley, Gul Panaag and Javed Jaffery. Moreover, the movie is supposed to have the same storyline.
A source informed that “Hello Darling’ writers have accepted taking inspiration from the plot of “Nine to Five’. However, they added that it was given a Bollywood style treatment.
Producer Ashok Ghai cleared saying that it was not at all a remake of “Nine to Five’ but when they discovered the similarity; they called up Fox Pictures and settled the issue cordially.
