Helen Mirren Says Hollywood Worships Men

Dec 9 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Dame Helen Mirren has passed down her condemnation of Hollywood, claiming that film makers aim their movies at young men. According to the actress, Hollywood “continues to worship at the alter of the eighteen to twenty five year old man” (and his… extremity).
The sixty five year old actress went on to explain that she resented “the survival of some very mediocre male actors and the professional demise of some very brilliant female ones”. She gave her speech at a breakfast ceremony which was held in Beverly Hills. As she took the Sherry Lansin Leadership award presented to her by another Oscar winning female actress, Halle Berry, Helen went on to say, “all due respect to you many brilliant and successful women in this room, not too much has changed in Hollywood film-making”
She also stated that journalist often request for her to give complaints about the opportunities for older women on the big screen, adding “and I certainly could complain about that. I’ve seen too many of my brilliant colleagues who worked non-stop through their 20s, their 30s and their 40s, only to find a complete desert in their 50s.”
