Dec 9, (THAINDIAN NEWS) British actress Helen Mirren has lashed out at the Hollywood bosses for being too obsessed with male centric movies which has over the years resulted in a serious dearth of author-backed roles for the older women in the industry. The noted actress made the claim while accepting an award for leadership at the annual Women in Entertainment awards which was held in a gala ceremony on Tuesday at Los Angeles.

During her acceptance speech at the grand award ceremony, the 65-year-old highly acclaimed actress appreciated that extremely talented bunch of women who are part of the movie business currently but went on to add that Hollywood still portrays the fairer sex as mere sex symbols who feature in the silver screens for the enjoyment of the male cine-goers. While accepting the honor, “The Madness of King George” star went on reiterate that during her acting career, she deeply resented the fact that a number of highly talented actresses had to struggle to make it big in Hollywood while male actors whose acting prowess could be best described as mediocre escalated the career ladder without much difficulty.

In an interview following the awards ceremony, Helen Mirren emphasized that being attractive should not be considered to be the only big quality for female actors as this results in much of a pressure on the women to look beautiful. At the same time, “The Queen” star also stressed that she never wants to be part of it while adding that the fact that she managed to look so ravishing even in this age is ‘bloody irrelevant.’
