May 27, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Bollywood films are evolving now as we can see special effects, robots, Superheroes and aliens being used as the theme of many films. But is that enough to enter the circle of Hollywood Sci-fi genre?
Bollywood is moving forward with films like Koi Mil Gaya, Krrish, Main Hoon Na, Love Story 2050 and the latest being Kites. Can we really compare them with the Hollywood flicks like Terminator, War of the Worlds, Hulk, Shrek and Avatar?
Bollywood has come a long way and new producers and directors are willing to experiment now. The new age directors want to use latest technology in films and make it look as modernized as possible but we still have a long way to go. The problem still persists that these technologies are highly expensive and professional expertise is required for it. The Indian market is still a budding ground for special effects but “Thank God’ we are growing slowly.
The kind of aura that a sci-fi film needs to create still seems to be missing in Bollywood. Still, we are somehow in the age of traditional romance with only a few film makers experimenting in this aspect lately. Bollywood is still waiting for those legendary films that will make a mark in the Indian books of sci-fi flicks.
Krrish and Love Story 2050 have already given a head start to the trend. With the upcoming Ra 1 starring Shah Rukh Khan, Indian audiences finally have their hopes high that they would get to see a full fledged Sci- fi film. SRK has claimed that he wants this movie to be as beautiful as a Spiderman and wishes that he can create wonders with this film.
For now, viewers can just wait and watch if we get to see the special effects with a strong script in this flick. And as for Bollywood Sci- fi flicks, we can only say that “slow and steady wins the race’ so let’s hope for the best!
