Nearly 51 years after the book’s publication, Lee has agreed to co-operate with a new biography

that will finally put to rest the mystery why the author never wrote again and vanished from the

public eye, reports the Telegraph.

The biography titled ‘The Mockingbird Next Door’ written by Marja Mills will also reveal the truth

regarding a suggestion that ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ was actually written by her best friend, fellow

author Truman Capote.

After the success of her debut novel, Lee had said, “I want to do the best I can with the talent God

gave me, I hope to goodness that every novel I do gets better and better, all I want to be is the Jane

Austen of south Alabama”.

She even started penning her second book titled ‘The Long Goodbye’, but mysteriously abandoned

it midway.

The biography will also throw light on Lee’s friendship with Capote, her childhood next-door

neighbour. The pair had worked together on Capote’s 1966 ‘true crime’ book ‘In Cold Blood’, but fell

out for reasons unknown.

Rumours have it that that Lee was hurt by Capote’s failure to give her full credit for her research.
