Apr 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Actor Kal Penn recently spent a year working for the Obama administration, only to announce earlier this month that he will soon be leaving Washington to return to Hollywood, and his acting career. Early this morning, however, Penn was robbed at gunpoint in a DC neighborhood.

At approximately 1:20 am while walking in the 1500 block of S St. N.W. Penn was approached by two men, one of which had a gun. The gunman ordered Penn to lie on the ground, and then forced the actor to hand over his cell phone and wallet. One suspect was described a black male, age 23-27, 5′9″ and 180 pounds, clean-shaven and having an average build.

Born with the name Kalpen Modi, Kal Penn left his job playing Dr. Lawrence Kutner on the television series, “House” which also stars Hugh Laurie as Dr Gregory House. “House”, which celebrated its 100th episode milestone in February 2009, has been honored with three Emmy Awards, including an award for creator and executive producer David Shore (Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series). The series has been honored with 20 Emmy Award nominations. His character was killed off the show so that he could take a job as an associate director in the White House Office of Public Engagement in April 2009. According to reports from “Entertainment Weekly”, Penn will soon be resuming his Hollywood career. A new “Harold and Kumar” movie is due to be released in 2011.

The move was reported in an article which was posted here on April 2, and it was also mentioned that Penn walks on a commute to the White House. “Penn seemed to make good on his plan to be treated like any other young executive-branch staffer, largely keeping a low profile and blending in, only occasionally being recognized by fellow pedestrians on his short commute from the Logan/Dupont area to the White House complex.”
