haloDec. 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The HALO Awards were presented on Dec. 11. It is an annual award function hosted by Teen Nick and Nick Cannon in honor of the teenagers who make a difference. The chairman of the new channel is singer Justin Timberlake. The awards ceremony was first conceived two years back. Through this ceremony, Hollywood stars are called on to give away the awards to common teenagers who have achieved an extraordinary status by virtue of their services to the community in their own small way.

The HALO Awards that were held on Friday was presided over by Nick Cannon as the master of ceremonies. The other stars present at the function were NBA basketball star LeBron James, singers Justin Timberlake and Alicia Keys and actress Hayden Panattiere. While the show itself was a star studded event, the real stars of the ceremony were the ones who had come to receive the awards, that is, the teens from among the common people.

Among the winners of the awards were 18 year old Brryan Jackson. He was given the prize for founding “Hope Is Vital”, an awareness and education program for HIV/AIDS affected people. Himself an AIDS patient, he had been infected at 11 months when his father injected him with affected blood. Then there was Megan Kilroy, the teenage environmental activist, who runs the group that promotes marine research and environmentalism called “Team Marine.” The other winners were Leah Stoltz and Darrius Snow, both overcoming the odds inflicted upon by society or nature to become a ray of hope for others.
